The ‘Sagara’ MobileApp developed by National Informatics Centre in consultation with the Department of Fisheries for the Fishermen community had been launched and training programmes to Fishermen, Boat Owners and Officials of Fisheries department were conducted at 5 locations in Kerala on 28-02-2018.

Shri. S. Karthikeyan, District Collector, Kollam has inaugurated the program by introducing it to All Kerala Fishing Boat Operators Association (AKFBO) president Shri. Peter Mathias. Since there are still chances for climate change-triggered natural calamities, fishermen should make use of safety measures, said the Collector. The meeting was presided over by Shri. C.T Suresh, Deputy Director Fisheries Kollam. More than 100 participants from the fishing community (fishermen and boat owners) were attended the training programme including officials from Fisheries Department and Enforcement Sub-inspectors.

Shri. Satheesh Kumar V.K, District Informatics Officer, NIC Kollam presented the ‘Sagara’ Mobile App, the background, requirement, development stages and implementation strategy. He also presented the features of Sagara application. A detailed hands on session handled by the NIC team comprising of officials from NIC Kollam and Trivandrum Shri. PadmaKumar N (ADIO Kollam), Shri. Indusekhar, PSA (NIC TVM), Shri Anil VV, PSA (NIC TVM), Shri Sumej Babu (ADIO, TVM) and FMS Kollam.
