Prison

District Jail is situated near the heart of Kollam City along the National Highway near the Collectorate. In 1862-63 there was a Principal Jail. The present jail was opened up on 10th of June 1955. Based on the recommendation of Jail Reforms Committee under the chairman ship of Sri. A. P. Udayabhanu, the Government has upgraded the present jail to district jail with reference to G. O. (M.S.) No. 42/2000 dated on 28/02/2000. The jail lodges 250 mail prisoners on an average. The total area of the jail is 54 cents.
