Apart from posting doctors on 24-hour duty at the
relief camps, teams of doctors were deputed to visit all the camps. 24-hour
ambulance service was provided at major camps. Preventive homeo medicine
for chicken pox was administered to almost all the inmates of the relief
camps. Cleanliness was ensured at the camps by using lotions like Phenyl
etc.
Sprayings and fogging were done in every camp regularly in order to control
breeding of mosquitoes etc. Enough number of garbage bins were purchased
and installed in all the relief camps and arrangements were made for lifting
of garbage on daily basis. There was no outbreak of diseases in the relief
camps.
The entire police force of the district turned its attention towards the
affected areas. Teams of police officials have patrolled the affected
areas, especially Alappad Panchayat, with an intention to prevent any
burglary of the houses that were deserted by the victims. Further, the
presence of police force prevented law & order problems at the relief
camps.
Each camp was manned by both men and women police and was under the over
all control of a sub-inspector. We have also closed the liquor shops in
the area for some duration so as prevent any likely law and order problems,
but at the same time intensified patrolling by Excise and Police Personnel
in order to prevent any hooch tragedies due to sale of illicit liquor
in the area.
